National Aboriginal Day In 1996, the former Governor General of Canada, Roméo A. LeBlanc, proclaimed June 21 of every year to be known as National Aboriginal Day. All Canadians are invited to recognize the diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis. On this special day celebrations of Aboriginal Culture often take place at Canada Place, City Hall, and the Legislature Grounds, among others.
